We install all three, with resin laid by our Daltex approved partner, and each has its place. The right choice depends on the house, how the space is used and how much looking after you want to do. Here is how we explain it to clients.
Resin bound
Resin bound surfacing is natural aggregate mixed with a clear resin and trowelled smooth over a solid base. It gives a smooth, modern finish with no joints for weeds to grow through, and a wide choice of colours.
- Permeable, so water drains through into the base, which helps with planning rules on front gardens.
- Low maintenance: a sweep and an occasional wash.
- Best on a properly laid base. A resin surface is only as good as what is underneath it.

Our resin work is laid by our Daltex approved installation partner, using Daltex materials.
Block paving
Concrete block paving is the most flexible option. It comes in many colours, sizes and laying patterns, it copes well with heavy vehicles, and individual blocks can be lifted and relaid if you ever need to get to a drain or a service.
- Very hard wearing.
- Easy to repair in patches.
- Joints need occasional sweeping and resanding to keep weeds down.
- Standard block is not permeable, so drainage has to be designed in. Permeable block is available.

Natural sandstone
Natural stone is the most traditional choice and, on the right house, the most beautiful. It suits stone houses, period properties and terraces, and it weathers in rather than wearing out. We source much of our paving from Paving Stones Direct.
- Every slab is different, which is the point.
- Best for patios, terraces, paths and steps, though it can be used on drives with the right thickness and base.
- Needs an occasional clean, and sealing is optional.

What matters more than the surface
Most driveway problems come from what is underneath: a thin sub base, no edge restraint or water with nowhere to go. We dig out properly, lay and compact the sub base, set the edges and design the falls and drainage before any surface goes down. That is what keeps it level and dry in ten years.
