Lewis Barlow has been involved in two major projects at our house near Stillington. These included restoring a barn and converting it to residential use, renovating the original farmhouse, and building two substantial extensions. From an empty plot to the keys
A new home is the biggest thing most people will ever build. It needs a builder who can run the whole job, not just the bricklaying.
We handle site clearance, groundworks and foundations, the structure, roof, windows and every finish inside, coordinating the specialists and the inspections along the way. We work with traditional masonry, natural stone, timber frame and modern methods such as SIPs, so the build suits the design rather than the other way round.
We also offer a foundations only service for self builders who want the critical groundwork done right before their frame goes up.

Stage 01
Groundworks
Site cleared, levels set and foundations dug and poured. Everything after this depends on it being right.
Stage 02
Up to damp proof course
Blockwork and drainage below ground, then the damp proof course and ground floor slab.
Stage 03
Walls and scaffold
Walls rise in stone, brick or block, with window and door openings formed as the scaffold goes up.
Stage 04
Roof on
Trusses or a cut roof, then membrane, battens and slate or tile, with windows and doors fitted so the building is weathertight.
Stage 05
Finished home
First and second fix, plastering, kitchen, bathrooms and floors, landscaping, then handover.

Do you build from someone else's drawings?
Yes. Most of our new builds are designed by an architect, either one of the practices we work with or your own.
Can you just do the foundations?
Yes. We offer a foundations only service, including groundworks, blockwork up to damp proof course and preparation for the slab, for self builders using timber frame or SIP systems.
Do you build commercial new builds?
Yes. We build commercial as well as domestic new builds, so ask Lewis about your project. Ask Lewis about your project.
Will the house have a warranty?
New homes normally need a structural warranty for mortgage lenders. We will talk you through the warranty your lender needs, and our own work carries an insurance backed guarantee of up to 10 years.
